Women are gaining influence as leaders throughout the world, fighting for peace, justice, the environment and civil society. In this program we profile four animal rights activists:

Alice Ng has worked with Wild Aid, founded Animal Balance in the Galapagos Islands and is now the executive director of Animals Asia Foundation.

Rosamira Guillen is the executive director of Proyecto Titi, promoting the survival of the Cotton -top Tamarin Monkey and its habitat in Colombia.

Lorena Aguilar is an executive with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, specializing in community and gender issues.

Elena Bykova heads up Wildlife Conservation Network’s Saiga Conservation Alliance to preserve the Saiga Antelope in Uzbekistan.

In this program we profile three courageous women struggling with religious issues. Elana Rozenman is co-director of the Women’s Interfaith Encounter in the Middle East. Irshad Manji is a Canadian Muslim lesbian and feminist who wants a reformation of her own faith. And Regina O’Callahan helped found the Northern Ireland Interfaith Forum to support religious diversity in her country.

Gambia’s Fatou Bensouda is Deputy Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, a judicial body dedicated to human rights. And retired Colonel Ann Wright, a former United States military leader and diplomat for the State Department is an outspoken opponent of the U.S. war economy.

With nuclear power back on the agenda, three prominent female activists tell their stories: Kaori Izumi was part of the grassroots campaign to shutdown Japan’s nuclear power plants, after the Fukushima disaster. Winona LaDuke, has spent much of her life working to oppose uranium mining on indigenous land. And Alice Slater is part of a global initiative to ban nuclear weapons. On this edition, is the anti-nuclear movement on the rise? This is a special collaboration with Lynn Feinerman and Crown Sephira Productions.

  • Elena Uraleva is an independent human rights monitor in her home country of Uzbekistan.  She works with WALK FREE to document forced labor and human rights abuses there.
  • Supriya Awasthi works on children’s rights and on freeing bonded slaves in India.  She is a staff member of FREE THE SLAVES.
